Because I know how hectic your schedules are in the summer\, this will be a hybrid book club of sorts. Materials will focus on the areas you need to know to become a Registered Parliamentarian. Plenty of worksheets\, PPPTs and quizzes will be shared for you to use in your teaching. Participants must complete all sections sequentially\, but you will have access to several weeks at a time to get caught up or work ahead as your schedule demands. SUMMARY:Introductory Woodworking Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Over a 3 day period\, participants will gain experience in “basic fine woodworking” by participating in classwork and lab instruction covering safe machinery operation\, project planning and design\, construction\, and finishing. Upon completion\, participants will have an entire semester worth of curriculum to teach basic woodworking\, as well as the skills and content to develop advanced coursework in their home program. \nTopics will include\, lumber basics (terminology and content)\, construction based math\, lumber calculation and ordering\, project planning (industry terminology and content)\, machine tool safety (technique and exams)\, machine operation and general maintenance\, project construction with varied techniques\, and fine wood finishing skills. In addition\, participants will construct the same project the course was developed around to take home as an example in their classrooms.

DESCRIPTION:Feeding and Fueling the World\, the professional learning experience equipping teachers nationwide\, coming to Nebraska this summer. \nMiddle and high school teachers of chemistry\, biology\, and environmental science will see firsthand how food production in America makes the perfect context for teaching STEM. \nThrough Feeding and Fueling the World workshops\, teachers will: \n\nKnow how biotechnology is utilized to solve problems in agriculture\nUnderstand how human impacts affect soil health and water quality\nBe able to describe how modern farming practices will feed the growing population\n\nParticipants’ registration\, hotel stay\, and meals are all covered. SUMMARY:Aquaponics 101 Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This 5-day professional development workshop is designed for teachers that would like to integrate aquaponics into their curriculum. The workshop is geared to middle and high school teachers\, but adventurous elementary and pre-service teachers are welcome. Aquaponics is a combination of aquaculture and hydroponics\, the growing of plants without soil. The fish and plants form a symbiotic relationship where the fish provide nutrients for the plants and the plants help clean the water for the fish. Classrooms across the country incorporate aquaponics to engage students and teachers in real world applications of chemistry\, biology\, math and agriculture science. \nThe workshop provides professional development credit (32 hrs) and hands-on opportunities to build small aquaponics systems and interact with aquaponics experts.  Topics covered at the workshop include integrating plant and fish culture\, the nitrogen cycle\, water quality\, components of a recirculating aquaculture system\, plant and fish selection\, plant and fish disease and pest management and many others. Attendees will have the opportunity to design and build an entire aquaponics system that they will be able to take back to their schools.
